Bealtaine Festival Artists’ Residency 2018

Artists’ Residency: Saturday, May 5th – Saturday, May 19th
Public Discussion at Wexford Arts Centre: Friday, May 18th (2 pm)

Year after year we look forward to this artists’ residencywith Age & Opportunity. In years past, this programme has included many artists for whom Co-Directors Rosie O’Gorman & Frank Abruzzese have long held great admiration. Following on the continued success of this collaboration, for the 2018 Bealtaine Festival, artists Charles Tyrrell, Anne Tallentire & Matt Calderwood have been invited by residency curator Linda Shevlin to take up residence at Cow House for two full weeks from May 5th to the 19th. The premise for this residency is to allow this intergenerational group of artists time to consider their art practice in our rural surrounding.

Established in 1995, Bealtaine is Ireland’s largest co-operative festival and the world’s first national celebration of creativity in older age. The Bealtaine Festival takes place each May. The ancient festival of Bealtaine or Beltane (held on May 1), marked the midway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice and heralded the start of Summer. The word Bealtaine is still used in the Irish language and translates as the month of May.
